Storing your KitchenAid mixer properly helps maintain its performance and prolong its lifespan. Here are some best practices:
Cover or Store in a Cabinet: Use the mixer cover provided or a clean cloth to protect it from dust when not in use. Store in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.
Secure Attachments: Remove attachments and store them separately or in the bowl to prevent them from getting lost or damaged.
Keep on a Stable Surface: Store the mixer on a stable, flat surface to prevent it from tipping over or getting damaged.
Avoid Humidity: Keep the mixer away from areas with high humidity to prevent rust or damage to electronic components.
Regular Use: Even if stored, periodically run the mixer on low speed to keep internal parts lubricated and prevent drying out of lubricants.
Following these practices ensures that your KitchenAid mixer remains in good condition and ready for use whenever you need it.
If your KitchenAid mixer is making unusual noises during operation, here are steps you can take to address the issue:
Stop Using Immediately: Turn off the mixer and unplug it from the power source to prevent any potential damage.
Check for Loose Attachments: Ensure that all attachments are securely in place and not causing any interference with the mixer’s operation.
Inspect the Bowl and Attachments: Look for any debris or objects that may have fallen into the bowl or around the attachment hub, as these can cause unusual noises.
Examine the Speed Settings: Adjust the mixer speed to see if the noise changes or stops at different settings. Sometimes, running the mixer at a lower speed can reduce noise.
Lubricate Moving Parts: If the noise persists, it could be due to lack of lubrication. Refer to the user manual for instructions on how to lubricate the mixer’s moving parts.
Contact Customer Support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, contact KitchenAid customer support or a certified repair technician for further assistance. Describe the noise and any troubleshooting steps you’ve taken to help diagnose the problem more accurately.
Addressing unusual noises promptly can prevent further damage to your KitchenAid mixer and ensure it continues to perform reliably.
It might surprise some Sydney customers to learn that KitchenAid mixers use food-grade grease inside their motor housing to lubricate internal gears. Over time—especially if the appliance sits unused or in a hot kitchen—this grease can separate, and you’ll see it seep from the planetary head or around the shaft.
This oil leakage is not dangerous, but it is a sign the mixer needs servicing. The grease may no longer be effective in protecting internal gears, increasing wear over time.
At Nationwide Appliance Repair Sydney, we offer full cleaning and re-greasing services for KitchenAid mixers. This includes removing the old grease, cleaning out the housing, inspecting internal components, and applying fresh, food-safe lubricant. This service can significantly extend the life of your mixer, whether you’re using it at home or in a busy bakery.
A burning smell coming from your mixer is always cause for concern and typically points to motor overheating or electrical component failure. This issue is most commonly reported by customers who’ve been mixing heavy dough for extended periods.
If you’re in Sydney and your KitchenAid mixer smells like burnt rubber or wiring, stop using it immediately. The smell may be from:
-An overheating motor
-Worn carbon brushes
-A failing speed control board
-Internal friction due to lack of lubrication
At Nationwide Appliance Repair, we strongly recommend turning off and unplugging the appliance and booking it in for a professional inspection. Our Sydney workshop is equipped to test internal circuits, replace burnt components, and clean or lubricate where necessary.
Absolutely—in most cases, repairing your old KitchenAid mixer in Sydney is far more cost-effective and worthwhile than buying a new one. KitchenAid mixers, especially older models, are known for their durability, metal construction, and long-lasting internal components. Many of these mixers were built to run for decades with proper maintenance.
At Nationwide Appliance Repair, we frequently service KitchenAid mixers that are 10, 15, or even 30 years old. These machines were engineered with quality in mind and are often much more robust than many of the newer models available today. Before deciding to replace your unit, it’s worth understanding the common issues and how easily they can be resolved.
Why Repairing Is Usually the Better Choice
-Cost-Effective: 90% of our customers in Sydney find that repairs cost less than half the price of a new mixer.
-Eco-Friendly: Repairing extends the life of your appliance and keeps high-quality metal parts out of landfill.
-Preserve Quality: Many older models were made with heavier-duty parts than newer mass-market units.
-Faster Turnaround: Avoid shipping delays and retail markups by servicing locally in Sydney with Nationwide Appliance Repair.
When Might Replacement Be Better?
There are a few rare cases when replacement may be the more logical option:
-Severely damaged motor windings where full replacement exceeds the value of the unit.
-Extensive rust or water damage to internal components.
-Non-genuine or previously botched repairs that compromise long-term reliability.
If we discover any of these during inspection, we’ll provide honest advice and cost estimates upfront.
