Why is my stand mixer not turning on?

If your stand mixer won’t power up, the issue might be electrical. Check if the power cord is damaged or the plug is loose. Sometimes the outlet itself is the problem—try plugging another appliance in to confirm.

If power is reaching the mixer and it still doesn’t turn on, the issue could be an internal fuse, a faulty power switch, or a burnt motor. In some models, a safety switch prevents operation if the mixer head isn’t locked in place.

What causes the mixer attachments to stop spinning?

Mixer attachments—like the paddle, whisk, or dough hook—are driven by internal gears connected to the motor. If these attachments stop spinning, it’s often because the gears are worn, cracked, or have lost grip due to grease deterioration.

In some cases, the attachment hub may be stripped or the planetary gear (the spinning head where attachments connect) might have failed. If attachments are inserted improperly, the machine might not detect them.

Repairs often involve replacing or re-greasing gears and inspecting the drive shaft to restore movement.

Why is my mixer head loose or wobbling during use?

A mixer head that wobbles during mixing might have a loose hinge pin or a worn locking mechanism. In tilt-head models, the head should stay locked in place when operating. If it bounces or shifts, it affects mixing efficiency and can lead to attachment wear.

Over time, screws can loosen or hinge pins can slide out of alignment. A technician can realign and tighten the head assembly, replace damaged components, and restore a solid lock to keep the machine stable while in use.

Can a burnt motor in a mixer be repaired?

Yes. If your mixer suddenly stops working, produces a burning smell, or hums without spinning, the motor may be burnt out. This can happen from overuse, blocked airflow, or internal faults.

Depending on the brand and model, the motor can often be replaced or rebuilt with new components such as windings, capacitors, or brushes.

In premium mixers, replacing the motor is typically more affordable than purchasing a new appliance—especially when the rest of the unit is in good condition.

Is it worth repairing an older mixer?

In most cases, yes—especially if your mixer is from a reputable brand like KitchenAid, Kenwood, or Sunbeam. Older models often have stronger internal components than many modern budget mixers and are built for long-term use.

Repairing an older machine typically costs far less than buying a brand-new appliance, and parts like gears, motors, and control knobs are still widely available.

– If additional time is required, extra labour is charged at $49.50 (inc. GST) per 15 minutes.
– No additional service call fee applies if the technician needs to return with parts. Only the labour charge of $49.50 (inc. GST) per 15 minutes, plus the cost of any required parts, will apply for the return visit and installation.

Please note: Our technicians carry a selection of commonly used, high-turnover parts in their service vans. However, due to the wide variety of appliances and components across brands and models, not all parts can be stocked on hand at all times.

For Premium Domestic Appliances:
Service Call – $242.00 inc GST

This Cost Includes:
– A mobile service van visit to your home, office, or workplace by one of our trained appliance technicians.
– Up to 30 minutes of labour is included during the initial visit.
– Approximately 75% of repairs are completed within the first 30-minute visit.
– If additional time is required, extra labour is charged at $49.50 (inc. GST) per 15 minutes.
– No additional service call fee applies if the technician needs to return with parts. Only the labour charge of $49.50 (inc. GST) per 15 minutes, plus the cost of any required parts, will apply for the return visit and installation.

For Commercial Appliances:
Service Call – $286.00 inc GST

This Cost Includes:

– Up to 30 minutes of labour is included during the initial visit.
– Approximately 75% of repairs are completed within the first 30-minute visit.
– If additional time is required, extra labour is charged at $49.50 (inc. GST) per 15 minutes.
– No additional service call fee applies if the technician needs to return with parts. Only the labour charge of $49.50 (inc. GST) per 15 minutes, plus the cost of any required parts, will apply for the return visit and installation.

The Nationwide Appliance Repairs Parts Team will promptly inform customers of the cost of parts either through email or over the phone, and for service recalls, we guarantee a 3-month of labour warranty along with a generous 12-month parts warranty on all our work.

Within the first 0 to 3 months of attending the job, if the same fault recurs, there will be no charge, ensuring customer satisfaction and peace of mind.
